Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today's edition is all about yo net-worth, honey! *Cue fanfare in the background and hoard of "YAAAAAS QUEEN!" coming out of nowhere*
To begin, I'm just going to leave these two screenshots of recent conversations I've had with a particular friend of mine who (whom?) also runs her own business and constantly uplifts me, never lets me feel sorry for myself or take a back seat in driving myself towards achieving my dreams.
To give you a little bit of background to our friendship (I am laughing so hard already I can't wait for you all to read this one), she calls me "that friend that clawed her way into my life". She does follow it up with, "I'm glad she did it, though." Comforting to know.
Let's journey back about... gosh 15 years. I first met her on my way to school in London and we would take the train together everyday (well, together is a bit of a stretch it would more be like we just happened to be there at the same time in the morning) for about 5 years.
I always thought to myself that I should make an effort to even say hello (don't act like you haven't done it or thought about it at least one time) but I never did. Years and years went by and skip forward to us being 21 years old. After all this time apart, God and the universe decided it was time for this friendship to flourish.
Five years back, I was sitting in the break room at work and what do you know? She walks in!
My, oh my I can only imagine what was running through her mind at this point and it probably was along the lines of "Lord have mercy not this one again. Is she going to only stare and not say hello like times past?" ( I am laughing again) but no, I plucked up the courage and said hey. We've been close friends ever since, she is my sister and will always be there for me and I, her.
Don't get me wrong - all of my close friends and family (you all know who you are and if you don't know me send me a message so we can connect with each other!) are the dearest loves to me and I am eternally grateful for the love, support, no nonsense shoulder to cry on and unconditional pride you have shown for me over the years. The reason why I'm talking about this friend in particular is because I want to demonstrate the importance of making that connection you have wanted to make but don't have the courage to.
My point is, it took me actually, 10 years to pluck up the courage to make a connection with someone I now hold in such high regard. She is running her own business and I am immensely proud of her. She helps me with business decisions and life ones, and values my opinion so highly when it comes to her own important choices.
I could have gone down the route of all the business connections I've made and sat here and banged on about those for a while but not everyone of you reading this has your own business. Not all of you want one and making connections with people is important regardless of whatever walk of life you hail from.
Growing your network is VITAL for you to flourish. Whether you use a network for your business, for your mental health, to gain more skills or to just have people who understand you... a network is absolutely crucial. Be careful that you make connections with the right individuals or businesses for YOU.
Another important thing to remember is - you will gain so much value from your network if you make good decisions and you will get the help you seek, however... please remember to give back. If someone needs advice, help or just someone to talk to - please make time for them as they have done for you.
We are all in this together.
Don't be scared to reach out to someone you admire, that guy you saw do a TED talk one time, that really successful business woman who lives two doors away, your neighbour who does yoga for their mind, body and spirit every morning ... or that lady in the coffee shop handing out her business cards. Do not be afraid, what's the worst that can happen?
Please reach out to me and connect, let me know your thoughts and comment below.
Stay safe loves,
